Salvatorians worldwide: A better future through education - school projects in Kenya
We take you to Osorongai, a small village in western Kenya. Samuel (name changed by the editors), twelve years old, lives there - old enough to have already been through a lot. His father died young and his mother struggles to survive. There was no room for education.
‘I wanted to go to school like the other children,’ says Samuel. But instead he fetched water and looked after his siblings - a child in the role of an adult.
In rural regions of Kenya, this is a reality for many. No electricity, no clean water - and no schooling. Instead of learning: child labour and lost dreams.
Then came the Salvatorians
In 2015, everything began to change. The religious community took over a simple school in Kipkaren. Classrooms were renovated, dormitories, wells, sanitary facilities and learning materials were created. Today, over 600 children attend the ‘Mater Salvatoris’ school - children like Samuel.
Thanks to a scholarship, he can now learn. And dream. He loves maths and has a clear goal: to become an engineer. ‘I want our village to have electricity and clean water,’ he says.
His teacher says: "Samuel is not just clever. He believes in himself. And that is perhaps the most valuable thing that education can give."
Education changes lives. Help finance school places, scholarships and learning materials for disadvantaged children in Kenya. Every contribution counts - every euro gives hope.
Donate for education. For opportunities. For children like Samuel. And make dreams come true.
Euro 27 costs two school books for one child
Euro 51 will finance a school desk and chairs for two children
Euro 93 enable one child to attend school for a year
Who is ‘Salvatorians worldwide’?
‘Salvatorians worldwide’ supports sustainable projects in education, health, pastoral care and development aid. It is based on a strong international network: we work together with members of religious orders worldwide, our project office SOFIA (Salvatorian office for international aid) in Rome and partners such as the European Union.
Our solidarity knows hardly any boundaries - whether it is through school education for children in the slums of Manila, medical aid for needy senior citizens in Africa, pastoral care in the rainforests of Brazil or support for pregnant women in rural Congo.
