New research assistant at the Institute for the Study of Salvatorian History and Spirituality
The Institute for the Study of Salvatorian History and Spirituality has a new addition: Daniela Sommer-Neustifter, a recognised expert in history, communication and church outreach work, has taken on the position of new research assistant. Born in Vienna in 1972 and now living in Breitenfurt (Lower Austria), she not only brings with her sound academic knowledge, but also decades of practical experience in cultural and church mediation.
After studying history and journalism and communication science at the University of Vienna (degree: Mag.a phil.), Sommer-Neustifter worked as a cultural mediator at the Wien Museum for 25 years. Her profile is complemented by numerous museum education and further training courses as well as training as a church guide at the Catholic Education Centre. Her passion for religious topics is also reflected in her diverse activities: church tours, lectures, workshops and publications such as „Auf den Spuren des Hl. Josef in Wiener Kirchen“ (In the footsteps of St Joseph in Viennese churches) (2022) are part of her extensive work.
She has been a volunteer in the parish of Namen Jesu (1120 Vienna) for many years, including in the parish management team, on the parish council and in public relations work.
Wide range of responsibilities
At the new institute, Sommer-Neustifter will play a central role in the establishment and conceptual development of the institution. Her tasks include supporting students with their Master's theses, networking with domestic and foreign research institutions, her own research and publication activities on Salvatorian topics and the organisation of knowledge transfer events such as conferences and webinars.

In her statement on her new position, Sommer-Neustifter emphasises: ‘I am delighted to be able to combine my specialist and interest areas of history and religion here, to work in a committed and pleasant environment and to be able to contribute creatively to the development of a research institute. In addition, the Salvatorian apostolate appeals to me, conveying Christian values in a contemporary way and utilising people's charisms to address the current needs in the world.’
