A Glimpse into the Salvatorian Provincial Archives

Stories from the Archives

The team at the Salvatorian Provincial Archives in Vienna combines historical research with a commitment to public engagement: they catalogue sources, bring historical figures to light and keep the Salvatorian heritage alive today through contributions in various media.

Since 2008, art historian Mag.a Doris Fries and I have been working at the Salvatorian Provincial Archives in Vienna under the supervision of Provincial Archivist P. Peter van Meijl SDS. One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is getting to know Salvatorian figures and exploring interesting topics.

We strive to fulfil the apostolate of the press as called for by Pater Jordan. An archive is understood to be a living place of history, which has an impact on the present and points towards the future. With this in mind, my colleague and I, together with our colleague Martin Kolozs have written and continue to write articles for the provincial magazine „SDS-Mitteilungen“ – which has been known as „die Salvatorianer“ since 2017 – for the „Michaeler Blätter“ (the parish newsletter of St Michael’s Church) and for other platforms. In the History(ies) from the Archive section, you will find a selection of the texts we have written.
