Who we are

We are the Salvatorians

We are a Roman Catholic religious order active worldwide.

Our Latin name is Societas Divini Salvatoris (SDS), which means ‘Society of the Divine Saviour’. Our mission is to proclaim Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world.

We Salvatorians see our community as a participatory community. As many members as possible are involved in decision-making processes. The Salvatorian communities in Austria and Timișoara together form the Austrian Province. A new leadership team is elected every three years.

Proclaiming Jesus Christ as the Saviour of the world

The name of the Order points to its core. The Salvator, the Saviour, is Jesus Christ. He came to heal and proclaims God as a God who loves humanity. With great devotion, he turns towards people and seeks out in particular those who are lost or marginalised. In him, the separation between God and humanity is overcome.

A global structure on three levels

The Salvatorians organise their community in such a way that as many members as possible are involved in decision-making. At the same time, each level bears responsibility for its respective tasks. The colleges act at the community level, the provinces for their regions, and the Generalate for the global leadership of the Society. This principle is in line with the Church’s concept of subsidiarity.
