Few places are as closely connected to Vienna’s musical history as St. Michael’s Church in the heart of the Austrian capital. On December 10, 1791, just a few days after Mozart’s death, a memorial Mass was held here for the composer. It is believed that parts of his unfinished Requiem were performed for the first time on this occasion.
More than 230 years later, this work will once again be performed at St. Michael’s Church. On Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., soloists, the St. Michael Choir and Orchestra, under the direction of Manuel Schuen, will perform the Requiem in D minor, K. 626.
The church’s unique atmosphere and centuries-old history provide the setting for an evening that brings together music and social commitment.
Proceeds from the benefit concert will support the PUSO SA PUSO education project in Manila. Established by the Salvatorians, the project has been working since 2010 to improve educational opportunities in disadvantaged neighborhoods of the Philippine capital.
At the learning centers in Parola and Payatas, children and young people who have had to leave school because of difficult living circumstances, or who have had no access to formal education, are given the opportunity to obtain a state-recognized school qualification. The educational program is complemented by preschool classes as well as nutrition and family support programs.
For the Salvatorians, education is a vital key to breaking the cycle of poverty and lack of opportunity.
„PUSO SA PUSO means ‘Heart to Heart’, and that is exactly what this project is about. For many years, we have been sending young men performing alternative civilian service to Manila, where they experience firsthand how important education is for people living in the city’s disadvantaged neighborhoods. PUSO SA PUSO gives them the opportunity to complete their schooling through an alternative education pathway and thereby open up new prospects for their lives. Through this benefit concert, we want to make a tangible contribution to this important initiative of the Salvatorians.“

Mission Procurator of the Salvatorians
Mozart’s Requiem is one of the most renowned sacred works in the history of music. The composer was unable to complete it before his death on December 5, 1791. Its performance at St. Michael’s Church therefore also recalls the remarkable history of the work and its creator.
The concert will be conducted by Manuel Schuen, Director of Church Music at St. Michael’s Church and Professor of Choral Conducting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Together with the soloists and the St. Michael Choir and Orchestra, he will bring this special musical evening to life.
By attending the benefit concert, music lovers will not only have the opportunity to experience one of Mozart’s most significant works in a historic setting, but will also help create new opportunities for young people in the Philippines.
